UL2161 Compliance
UL2161 is a new standard set by Underwriter Laboratory (UL) which is an outcome of the 1996 and 1999 National Electronic Code (NEC)
requirements. UL2161 requires ALL ELECTRICALLY POWERED SIGN MANUFACTURERS to purchase transformers with “Secondary Ground
Fault Interrupter” (SGFI) built into the transformers. The SGFI is a protection device that tells the transformer to shut down when sensing any
electrical short (such as an ungrounded outlet, power shortage, power surge, open circuit, or ground fault). As of September 3, 1999, all UL
listed neon signs must be equipped with the new transformer that has SGFI and complies with UL2161 and meets the national electric codes.
